The Opposition has urged the Palaszczuk-Gordon Government to step up to the plate and outline their plan for sport and recreation funding for the Mudgeeraba electorate.
Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates said the former LNP Government had committed $68 million for the hugely popular Get in the Game program, but Labor was refusing to follow through with the funding.
“Local sports clubs in Mudgeeraba are now in limbo because of the Labor Government’s failure to ensure this funding is guaranteed for another three years,” Ms Bates said.
“After more than four months since taking office, the Palaszczuk-Gordon Government has not only refused to continue this vital funding but has not outlined a plan of its own to support our local clubs.
“This is a Government with no plan for our local area, and no plan for Queensland.”
Mudgeeraba Redbacks Junior Rugby League Club coaching director and former president Matt Kenworthy said the uncertainty surrounding sports funding would be detrimental to local clubs.
“The Get in the Game funding was crucial because it allowed us to build great new facilities and provided vouchers for young people to get involved, but now there is no guarantee this funding will continue,” said Mr Kenworthy.
“We need this funding to continue so local sports clubs can continue to operate in our community.”
Shadow Minister for Sport Jann Stuckey has challenged the Palaszczuk-Gordon Government to continue funding key projects successfully delivered through the LNP Government’s popular Get in the Game initiative
“We are calling on Labor to commit to funding for projects previously determined to be necessary for building social capacity in local communities,” she said.
