Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates has taken swift action to improve safety on Nerang-Murwillumbah Road in the Gold Coast hinterland after a near fatal traffic accident occurred last month.

“I was deeply concerned about an accident that occurred on Nerang-Murwillumbah Road recently and when I discussed this matter with the local Police, they said the accident occurred largely as a result of the road being slippery when wet,” said Ms Bates.

“I wasted no time in contacting the Department of Main Roads and telling them ‘slippery when wet’ signs need to be installed to prevent future accidents like this.

“I am now pleased to announce that ‘slippery when wet’ signs will be installed as soon as possible near the Beechmont Road and Latimers Crossing Road intersections of Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, in the southbound direction.

“This will improve safety on Nerang-Murwillumbah Road as the signs encourage motorists to take care during wet conditions.”

Numinbah Valley resident Peter Yaun said the improved signage would be a welcomed improvement to the hinterland.

“The windy hinterland roads can often be very slippery when wet, particular as motorists often do not drive to suit conditions,” said Mr Yaun

“It’s great to see that ‘slippery when wet’ signs will be installed in the near future, in just the latest in a series of improvements to hinterland signage we’ve been able to secure with the help of Ms Bates.”
