Beechmont Road Reconstruction Works

The Department of Transport and Main Roads will start slope stabilise works on Beechmont Road near the intersection of Bottletree Lane later this month.

The department proactively undertakes geotechnical inspections of all mountainous roads and seeks funding to improve slope stability.

Work will be undertaken below the road prior to the intersection of Bottletree Lane and will include improving drainage and slope protection works. Work will be undertaken above the road after the intersection of Bottletree Lane and will include removal of potentially unstable boulders as well as improving road drainage.

Work is currently expected to start in late October and continue into early 2020. While boulders are being removed above the road, it will be necessary to close the road for the safety of the travelling public. Beechmont Road will be closed from the intersection of Nerang–Murwillumbah Road to Brushbox Road for half hour intervals from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday. The half hour closures are expected to be in place for up to four weeks, with stop/slow traffic conditions expected to continue for another few months. Outside of working hours, only one lane will remain open through this section.

More information will be provided in the comings weeks to confirm the start date and more specific information on the closures times. Variable message signs will also be in place to communicate information to motorists and residents.

Weather, site conditions and contractor availability may impact the proposed work schedule.
