Construction planning underway for Beechmont Road

Transport and Main Roads advises that contractor, Georgiou Group, is the successful tenderer for road and landslip reconstruction works on Beechmont Road that occurred as a result of Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie in March 2017.

There are 23 landslips (10 major and 13 minor) located along a 16-kilometre section of Beechmont Road between the Nerang-Murwillumbah Road intersection and Lower Beechmont.

Over the coming weeks, while construction planning gets underway, the project team will commence early preparation works including surveying, minor vegetation clearing and establishing site facilities.

During these early works, residents and road users can expect single lane closures to be in place in the area of the works and mobile traffic signals and/or traffic controllers directing traffic one way at a time.

Major works to repair the damaged Beechmont Road sites are expected to start in mid to late April 2018 and will be complete by late 2018, weather and construction conditions permitting. The road may be required to be closed at night for a period of time to restore the most challenging site near Mirani Street where one lane is operational under traffic signals. Further information about the schedule of works will be provided once known.

Eligible reconstruction works will be jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
