Gold Coast-Springbrook Road major works underway

Good news for Springbrook residents – major works are finally set to begin on Springbrook Road to get the front road fixed. This work will repair 18 critical landslip sites and 35 minor sites.

In January, crews started getting the worksite ready by setting up and getting organised in terms of the delivery of materials and machinery. The crews now will be getting to work to stabilise embankments that were battered last year and rebuild the road. The contract for this project has been given to Georgiou Group.

Work should be complete by December 2018, weather permitting, while the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is hoping to get the road partially opened under traffic control by October.

I know just how frustrating the closure of Gold Coast-Springbrook Road has been for locals who have had to use Pine Creek Road in the meantime, adding a lot of travel time to their daily lives. That’s why I had TMR officers up the mountain twice to brief Springbrook residents and listen to their concerns.

I thank all Springbrook locals for their patience and I’m sure the community will breathe a collective sigh of relief with a completion date in sight.

I encourage locals to subscribe to project update emails or SMS updates by registering their details at southcoast@tmr.qld.gov.au.
