The Labor Government is rolling out the welcome mat in Mudgeeraba for criminal motorcycle gangs with revelations the hugely successful VLAD laws will be scrapped.
Member for Mudgeeraba, Ros Bates MP said Attorney-General Yvette D’ath has confirmed that Labor’s so-called ‘review’ was more like an overhaul.

“It’s extremely concerning that the Labor Government is prepared to put Queenslanders’ safety at risk, without a good reason,” Ms Bates said.

“The last thing the residents of Mudgeeraba need is to be fearful that organised crime is running rife in the community.

“I call on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to stand up for Queenslanders, especially the families in Mudgeeraba and ensure these laws are upheld.”

Shadow Attorney-General Ian Walker said while Labor was soft on crime, the LNP introduced the strongest and most effective laws in the country for dealing with criminal gangs.

“Since the laws were enacted we saw a dramatic reduction in criminal gang activity on the Gold Coast and across Queensland,” he said.

“These laws were so successful even the South Australian Labor Government most recently sought to adopt the same tough-on-crime approach that Queensland Labor seeks to repeal.”

Mr Walker said Queenslanders did not vote for a government that put its safety at risk and allowed criminal gangs to take back control of the streets.

“Labor has broken its promise and has been caught out revealing its true intention to scrap the toughest laws in the country,” he said.

“Under an LNP Government we commit to bring the criminal gang laws back and ensure the safety of all people who live and visit the Gold Coast or any other area throughout the State.”
