Member for Mudgeeraba, Ros Bates MP has delivered a scathing assessment of Labor’s State Infrastructure Plan after it included no commitment to upgrading the M1 between Robina and Reedy Creek.

Ms Bates, a long time campaigner for M1 upgrades who has seen the motorway widened from Nerang to Robina, said she was stunned to see the upgrade was not included in the State Infrastructure Plan despite being a key priority for the Federal Coalition Government.

“Labor continues to blatantly ignore the Gold Coast,” said Ms Bates.

“Time after time, we have seen the Gold Coast ignored by Labor, giving us recycled and blow in candidates during the election campaign and re-announced and rebadged projects since they formed Government.

“This State Infrastructure Plan does not contain one single mention of the M1 on the Gold Coast, despite this being a key priority in Australian Infrastructure Plan.

“Over the last year, we have seen the Labor Government forget to ask for Federal funding for this project, then blame the Federal Government for Labor’s failure to deliver, and now it has once again forgotten about the M1.

“After a year of this Labor Government grinding infrastructure investment to a halt, it’s clearly going to take a long time for Labor’s infrastructure freeze to thaw out.
