* Only 9% of reported cases of abuse and neglect were actioned in the required 10 day timeframe

* LNP invested a record $406 million in the child safety system and the LNP boosted child safety numbers by 77 in 2014

* More than half of cases in Mackay region were not actioned in required timeframe

Mackay families are continuing to be let down by the Palaszczuk Labor Government with the latest child safety data showing the system is in crisis under a do-nothing Labor Government.

Shadow Child Safety Minister said the December figures showed a concerning increase in the number of cases not completed in their specified timeframe.

“In the Mackay region only nine per cent of reported cases of abuse and neglect were actioned in the required 10 day timeframe,” Ms Bates said.

“More than 20 cases dragged on longer than the required 60 days, leaving children and families in limbo and putting greater strain on investigation teams.

“What is even more concerning is 25% of cases that had a 24 hour timeframe were missed, meaning children were left in abusive homes and potentially dangerous circumstances.

‘We have seen the number of reported cases of abuse rise, with Mackay now recording the second highest suspected cases of abuse in the state.”

Ms Bates said according to the December data, Mackay has the highest number of children in foster and kindship care in North Queensland.

“Labor still has no answer to the record number of children in foster care,” Ms Bates said.

“Behind every one of these figures is a child in need of protection and assistance.

“While Labor dithers, children suffer and our child safety system spirals further into crisis.”

Ms Bates said Annastacia Palaszczuk and Minister Shannon Fentiman were not only failing to protect Queensland children, but putting child safety staff under great stress.

“Labor’s Child Safety Department is in complete disarray and is imploding fast,” she said.

“It was the LNP that invested a record $406 million in the child safety system and it was the LNP that boosted child safety numbers by 77 in 2014.

“Only the LNP will deliver a better Queensland by building stronger families.”
