Member for Mudgeeraba, Ros Bates MP says today’s State Budget proves the Palaszczuk-Labor Government are playing catch up announcing infrastructure funding that has been on the table for 13 years.
Labor’s announced upgrade of the M1; including $70 million for an extra lane from Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes; is a re-hashed version of a 13-year-old agreement, an agreement that Labor is delivering 13 years too late.
“In 2007 Paul Lucas was given matching funding from the Howard government to 8 lane the M1 from Nerang to Tugun, I know this because I was there, and only now on the eve of a Federal election has State Labor been railroaded by both the Turnbull Government and the Federal Opposition into finally fixing this crucial piece of infrastructure,” said Ms Bates.
The announced funding for upgrades to Gold Coast-Springbrook Road, Nerang-Murwillumbah Road and
Beechmont Road are all evidence of the Labor government playing catch up.
- $13.9 million announced to remediate barter slopes on the Gold Coast-Springbrook Road;
- $5.898 million for upgrades to Nerang-Murwillumbah Road;
- $3.941 million for upgrades to Beechmont Road
“This funding is part of the joint Federal-State NDRRA funding to fix roads which collapsed 18 months ago.”
“This proves the Palaszczuk-Labor Government are responsible for delaying the much-needed upgrades that hinterland residents are crying out for,” said Ms Bates.
Other areas where the Palaszczuk-Labor Government have fallen short in Mudgeeraba are;
- No funding for Mudgeeraba schools;
- No funding for Mudgeeraba police services;
- No funding for anti-hooning upgrades at the intersection of Pine Creek Road and Nerang-Murwillumbah Road;
- No funding for flashing school zone signage at Numinbah Valley State School;
- No funding for vital safety upgrades and congestion-busting at Mudgeeraba Road-Tallai Road intersection;
- No funding for the Robina Community Legal Centre; and
- $800,000 announced 6 months ago to upgrade Springbrook National Park amenities
