• Reviving a much-loved community waterway neglected under Labor’s
decade of inaction.
Ros Bates and the Crisafulli Government are delivering on their commitment to
protect and restore Queensland’s natural assets by backing the Austinville Landcare
Group’s efforts to revitalise Mudgeeraba Creek.
This iconic waterway, which runs through Mudgeeraba and beyond, has suffered
from years of neglect under the former government. The Crisafulli Government is
prioritising the stretch from the M1 to Somerset Drive to kickstart its restoration.
Local volunteers are rolling up their sleeves to remove rubbish and debris from the
creek, restore native vegetation, stabilise the banks, and support biodiversity by
tackling invasive weeds.
To support this work, the Crisafulli Government has committed $100,000 in funding.
The project will be delivered in partnership with the Gold Coast City Council and will
complement existing ecological restoration efforts in the catchment.
Austinville Landcare will also organise community planting events to engage locals in
the restoration effort.
Member for Mudgeeraba, Ros Bates, said the funding was a win for both the
environment and the local community.
“We are delivering on our promise to support local volunteers who are restoring one
of our most loved natural assets,” Minister Bates said.
“We have watched our waterway deteriorate under ten years of Labor, and this
funding commitment will help us turn that around.”
“This is a great example of how the Crisafulli Government is partnering with locals to
deliver a Fresh Start for Queensland.”
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the Crisafulli
Government was proud to support committed volunteers working to improve facilities
for locals.

“We are very grateful for the work of grassroots community groups in helping to
maintain and improve natural spaces, particularly in urban and semi-rural settings,”
Minister Powell said.
“The work of the Austinville Landcare Group in ensuring the long-term survival of
Mudgeeraba Creek is to be commended.”
Wal Mayr from Austinville Landcare Group said the organisation was thrilled to be
awarded the grant.
“Mudgeeraba Creek is a much-loved waterway that flows from Springbrook,
Austinville and Bonogin through to Mudgeeraba,” Mr Mayr said.
“All of these communities will be part of the process of cleaning the creek of weeds
and debris and encouraging new vegetation to hold the creek banks.”
