A DAMNING leaked internal Queensland Health “Risk Analysis” has exposed long-running serious and systemic issues at Logan Hospital Emergency Department.

Whistleblowers leaked the secret document to the LNP Opposition to expose the deep-rooted issues at Logan Hospital, the Palaszczuk-Miles Labor Government had failed to acknowledge and fix.

The document has been released following reports that exposed systemic failings at Logan Hospital may have contributed to the death of beloved Queensland grandfather Russell Bates.

​The documents reveal serious incidents plaguing Logan Hospital, similar to those exposed in Caboolture and Mackay hospitals, exposed through top-level Part 9 investigations.

Damning revelations from the internal Queensland Health document include:​

  • Loss of life, permanent harm, loss of function or disability was “almost certain”, due to “delayed treatment”.
  • Serious patient incidents are likely to occur “once every week or month”.
  • Patients are frequently being treated in corridors and waiting rooms without privacy, severely limiting the care options available.
  • The majority of “harm and critical incidents” are likely unreported, even when significant harm or delays are caused.
  • Patients collectively spent 9661 hours waiting to be admitted to wards at Logan Hospital in one month alone.
  • The Emergency Department is unable to meet “Time to Treat” KPIs for category 2, 3 and 4 patients.

When questioned in Parliament today, Health Minister Shannon Fentiman refused to order a top-level “Part 9” investigation into the case and Hospital, to ensure further lives weren’t lost.

Shadow Minister for Health and Registered Nurse Ros Bates said the documents were further proof the longer Labor was in Government, the worse the Queensland Health Crisis became.

“Brave whistleblowers have lifted the lid on long-running serious and systemic issues at Logan Hospital that is risking patients’ lives,” Ms Bates said.

“The secret Queensland Health Risk Analysis is absolute proof of long-running systemic issues Labor has failed to fix.

“Today, Shannon Fentiman must order a top-level ‘Part 9’ investigation for Logan Hospital, to ensure no other Queenslanders pay the price for Labor’s chaos and crisis.

“Queenslanders will be shocked to hear the Health Minister deny these issues to a family that just lost a beloved father, misleading Parliament about long-running serious issues at Logan Hospital.

“Shannon Fentiman has clearly been too busy focusing on her political risks to address the ‘very high risk’ facing patients.

“These serious and systemic issues are happening right under the Health Minister’s nose, in her own electorate, and she has told Queenslanders she is not interested in fixing them.

“Whistleblowers are so concerned about what is happening at this hospital on Labor’s watch, they’re speaking out to expose the truth.

“The report is very clear these issues are not the fault of our hardworking doctors and nurses, who are doing the best with the resources they have.

“This is the result of Labor failing to adequately resource and run one of the State’s biggest hospitals.

“This is a government with the wrong priorities, in a constant state of chaos and crisis.

“How many more patients must face ‘permanent harm’ or ‘loss of life’ before the Health Minister acts?

“Only the LNP has the right priorities for Queensland’s future, including easier access to health services.”
