An LNP Government will launch a $1bn program of new road and rail projects across South-East Queensland.
The SEQ Congestion program will stimulate the economy, create 3100 jobs and bust congestion from Noosa to Currumbin, from the Bayside to Toowoomba.
On the Gold Coast, the Gooding Drive gridlock will be busted through a $35 million upgrade by an LNP Government as part of a job-creating infrastructure program.
LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said the roundabout at Carrara would be replaced with a signalised intersection to slash travel times at the major thoroughfare connecting Gooding Drive with Nerang Broadbeach Road to the north and Robina Parkway to the south.
“Building new infrastructure projects like the Gooding Drive intersection will create jobs and stimulate the economy,” Ms Frecklington said.
“The $35 million infrastructure project is just one part of the LNP’s job-creating, congestion-busting program of new road projects.
“An LNP Government will build Queensland out of recession and bust congestion across the South-East.
“Replacing the dangerous roundabout with a safe intersection will cut congestion and create more than 109 jobs during construction.
“Busting this congestion will not only reduce travel times and improve safety for families but also boost local businesses, helping them create even more jobs.
“There are 209,000 Queenslanders out of work and this is the kind of project that should have shovels in the ground.
“The Gooding Drive upgrade is on top of the LNP’s plan to build a Second M1 to create jobs and get Gold Coast traffic moving again.
“It’s time for action and the LNP will kickstart these projects to stimulate the economy and get Queensland working again.”
Official traffic data shows that almost 44,000 cars a day use the main roads that feed into this roundabout, making it one of the busiest intersections on the Gold Coast.
LNP candidate for Gaven Kirsten Jackson said roundabout was one of the most dangerous on the Gold Coast.
“The roundabout set up is confusing and motorists often don’t even know what lane to be in,” Ms Jackson said.
“Prangs and crashes happen regularly and cause traffic mayhem.
“The LNP will replace the roundabout with a proper, signalised intersection to improve vehicle flow and safety once and for all.
“The roundabout is right in the middle of major growth areas in the Gaven, Mudgeeraba and Surfers Paradise electorates so this major project is needed now.
“The LNP will invest for growth and upgrade the roundabout to ensure it can cope with the traffic demand into the future.”
LNP MP for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates said the roundabout replacement would make a big difference to congestion in this area of the Gold Coast.
“The replacement should have happened by now, but it’s no priority for Labor,” Ms Bates said.
“The only way to fix this roundabout is to change the government and vote for the LNP.
“It’s all part of the LNP’s plan stimulate the economy, create a decade of secure jobs and drag Queensland out of recession.”
