The Queensland Government is failing small and family businesses across the state.
Hundreds of thousands of small business owners and their staff are desperate for a lifeline and confidence to invest, trade and grow.
The small business sector is under immense pressure right now to survive.
The facts paint a very concerning picture:
Counting the cost for Queensland businesses:
- Insolvencies jumped 59% last month
- Queensland has biggest per-capita bankruptcy rate
- Retail sales drop 1.5% after January lockdown
Queensland is the only state that does not offer a lockdown support package for businesses.
The Queensland Government is ignoring small and family businesses.
Shadow Minister for Small and Family Business Brent Mickelberg says the package is not just about support through the lockdown but building confidence now so businesses can invest, trade and grow.
“Small and family businesses need certainty in uncertain times so they can invest, trade and grow.
“Business as usual spending in the small business sector by the State Government does not constitute the financial help needed in these extraordinary times,” Mr Mickelberg says.
“Many small businesses have already closed. How many more will it take for the state government to act?”
“The State Government is running out of time to show they care about the more than 400,000 Queensland small and family businesses.” Mr Mickelberg says.
“These hard-working business owners have families to support, and the staff they employ have their own bills to pay.
“This is about more than politics, industry leaders like CCIQ have backed our calls to assist struggling businesses.”
The LNP will keep up the fight for small and family businesses by putting the pressure on the state government for a lockdown support package.
What the LNP has suggested:
LUMP LOCKDOWN PAYMENTS: payments for small businesses to cover loss of income due to lockdowns
DEEP CLEANING COVER: a rebate covering deep cleaning fees if a business is identified as a COVID-19 exposure venue
EVENT CANCELLATION REBATES: covers financial losses if event is cancelled due to a lockdown.”
