HARROWING new health data reveals Redland Hospital had the steepest quarterly rise in ambulance ramping across the state, jumping from 50% to 63% last quarter under the chaotic Palaszczuk Labor Government.

This alarming figure means nearly two in three patients are waiting longer than recommended in the back of an ambulance or on a stretcher in their hour of need.

Under the chaos and crisis of the Palaszczuk Government, Queensland has the worst ambulance ramping in the country due to nearly a decade of poor planning and underinvestment by Labor.

The new figures join a growing list of major failures and broken promises at Redland Hospital under the Palaszczuk Labor Government:

• At the 2020 election the Palaszczuk Labor Government promised Redland Hospital would have an ICU and 32 more beds, delivered by late 2022. This has now blown out to at least late 2024.
• Last month, leaked documents revealed the Government’s promised stage 2 hospital expansion, including a new Emergency Department, had been postponed.
• Redland Hospital is the ONLY metropolitan Queensland Health hospital without an intensive care unit (ICU)/critical care unit, 24/7 general surgical services or inpatient orthopaedic services.
• Government figures prove there are now 7 less beds at Redland Hospital than there were in September 2021.

Last week, the LNP Opposition announced it would be holding the 31st Queensland Health Crisis Town Hall in Redlands today.

Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli said it was vital the LNP continued to listen to the concerns of the Redlands community and put forward positive solutions to heal the Queensland Health Crisis.

“Today we are heading to the Redlands to hold the 31st Health Crisis Town Hall to hear first-hand how the Queensland Health Crisis is affecting those in the Bay,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“The latest data is deeply concerning because it highlights that when a Redlands resident arrives at the hospital in an ambulance, almost two in three wait longer than recommended.

“It is unacceptable in a modern Queensland and our hard-working health staff need support and solutions now.”

Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said the chaos and crisis of the Palaszczuk Labor Government was affecting Queenslanders who could not trust them in their hour of need.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government has been in power for more than eight years and in that time ambulance ramping has gone from 15% to 43% across the state, it had already soared to 30% before COVID.

“After three terms in office, the Palaszczuk Labor Government has given up on listening, which is why Queenslanders do not trust Labor to heal the Queensland Health Crisis.”

LNP Candidate for Redlands Rebecca Young said she has heard countless stories from locals who have been affected by the Queensland Health Crisis.

“This week I listened to a heartbreaking story from a Redland Bay local whose husband with a serious heart condition called an ambulance in his hour of need, but it never arrived,” Ms Young said.

“Residents in my community are calling triple-zero only to be told there are no ambulances available and are asked to drive themselves to the hospital.

“The Redlands deserves better and I will continue to fight for my community.”
