The highly anticipated report by Assoc. Prof. Paul Griffin into why a hospital receptionist at a Covid ward was not vaccinated must be released before the Premier leaves for the Olympic Games.
The 19-year-old Prince Charles Hospital worker was able to travel between Brisbane and Townsville while infectious with the highly contagious Delta variant, forcing millions of Queenslanders into lockdown.
“Just when Queenslanders thought they were on the home run out of the pandemic; the state government struck out for a third time,” Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said.
“They’re losing control of Covid safety protocols and it’s costing Queensland families and small businesses.
“It’s the third time the state government’s health protocols have failed, resulting in millions of Queenslanders being locked down.”
The three system failures occurred at:
- Grand Chancellor Hotel – January 2021
- Princess Alexandra ward 5D – March 2021
- Prince Charles Hospital unvaccinated receptionist – June 2021
“The state government must do more to strengthen the system and protocols in order to prevent another outbreak,” Ms Bates said.
“There is no room for mistakes when it comes to the lives and livelihoods of Queenslanders.”
Information on how this latest critical error was made must be released before the Olympic Games, when the Premier will leave Queensland for Tokyo.
