THE LNP has today delivered a massive cost of living result for Queenslanders.
After a sustained campaign by LNP Leader David Crisafulli and the Opposition, the Palaszczuk Labor Government has bowed to pressure and reduced learner licence fees.
The Palaszczuk Labor Government has for years pocketed the most expensive licence fees in the country.
Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli who launched the campaign last year said easing cost of living pressures on Queenslanders was a major priority for his team.
“Queenslanders backed our campaign and we backed them,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“Thanks to our campaign, the State Government’s learner licence fee rip-off will now be reduced from the exorbitant $186.55, by far the most expensive in the country, to $75.
“That extra money will mean a lot to Queenslanders and we are proud to have secured the result for them.
“We met and listened to Queenslanders across the state who couldn’t afford to get their licence which was limiting their job opportunities.
“We listened to parents who just wanted the best for their kids but were anxious about having to pay for the expensive fee.
“We listened to young Queenslanders who had to fork out their whole savings just to pay the State Government’s high fees.
“It wasn’t fair and we called it out.
“The State Government attacked us for going into bat for Queenslanders on this but we did not stop and got a result.
“I’m proud to get this result for Queenslanders but our work is not done.
“The State Government is still not listening to Queenslanders struggling under cost of living pressures.
“The State Government only ever acts when they’ve been caught out by the Opposition or media and quite frankly Queenslanders are growing tired of it.
“Queenslanders deserve better than a government that doesn’t listen and is always too slow to act.”
Learner Licence fees in Queensland are still the second highest in the country and remain three times more expensive than NSW and Victoria.
