THE Premier must immediately reinstate Gladstone’s maternity services and give local women the health care they deserve.
The Premier’s description of Gladstone as “rural” and “remote” is wrong.
More than 30,000 people live in Gladstone, it is a proud city and major regional centre in Queensland.
It is the Premier’s responsibility to keep Queenslanders safe, and she is failing expectant mothers in Gladstone by forcing them to drive more than an hour to Rockhampton to give birth.
The stories I heard in Gladstone on Friday at the LNP’s 25th Queensland Health Crisis Town Hall from pregnant women were harrowing.
These women are frightened, and fear the safety of their unborn babies if they have to give birth on the side of the road with no maternity services in Gladstone.
The Premier must stop treating regional Queenslanders as second-class citizens and fix the mess her government has created.
It is simply unacceptable.
Queenslanders deserve so much better than this.
