Reedy Creek – WE DID IT!
I promised you there would be no quarry at Reedy Creek, and I’m beyond delighted to inform you that THERE NEVER WILL BE.
Boral withdrew its application at the 11th hour, but the Deputy Premier has listened to our community and ensured this fight has been won once and for all.
The Crisafulli Government has lifted the Key Resources Area (KRA) designation put in place by Labor in 2007, stopping any future plans for a quarry in the region.
Despite our strong opposition, numerous requests from Gold Coast City Council and costly legal challenges, successive Labor governments left the KRA in place and the threat of this quarry hanging over our heads.
Thanks to our tireless efforts advocating for our community, and future generations which will call Mudgeeraba home, that threat is gone.
We stood together. We stood firm. And we won.
I want to thank every one of the thousands of people who gave their voice to this fight- I’ve got a handshake and a hug waiting for anybody who wants one!
I’ve stood with you to block this quarry twice, and having seen it blocked forever will be one of the highlights of my political life.
Every single person who took up this fight should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved not just for themselves and their families, but for future generations of our community.
This was only possible because of the strength and solidarity we showed as a community, and I’m eternally grateful for the thousands of people who used their voice to shout down this quarry.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,

Ros Bates MP
State Member for Mudgeeraba
