Queensland border crossing ‘chaos’ as new pass restrictions cause traffic build up

Some have reported delays of well over an hour trying to get over the Queensland border today after changes to the border pass at midday threw travellers into chaos.

Residents say the border crossing can now take anywhere between 40 minutes to well over an hour as a backlog of travellers from NSW rush to head north.

Confusion over the new rules have also added to the delays with many returning unaware that they required a new border declaration pass from noon today.

Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates said a she has heard from constituents who cannot get out of their driveway because of the standstill.

“Police are pulling up everyone and insisting they have the new 12pm pass printed – and of course most don’t.”

The Bulletin understands individual are being asked to complete the new declaration on the spot, which has added to the delays.

Comment on Facebook Queensland border ...

Emma apparently everyone drives white cars. Can’t see your gold one.

The Public Service at their best, no idea what they are doing and no repercussions for the fail.

Thank goodness they are being thorough. Don't want COVID back and have to shut everything down!!!

People should just follow the rules and do their declaration before travelling. It’s been clearly labeled and if you need to cross the border, check the current rules. We check each day as my husband works across the border. It’s not hard if people just do it before they go.

Pacific Motorway (M1) Varsity Lakes to Tugun upgrade
Package A - Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) to Burleigh (Exit 87)

I have written to TMR regarding the recent removal of vegetation near Woolworths, as I am aware that local residents particularly those who back on to the M1 from Asperia Street are concerned about whether or not sound barriers have been considered from Woolworths, given they already have increased noise due to the GCCC upgrade of Old Coach Road.

Pre-construction noise monitoring was carried out at various representative locations along the project corridor to determine current road traffic noise levels.

Where road traffic noise levels are predicted to exceed the relevant noise criteria from the Code, a series of options are being developed for noise mitigation.

Once the upgrade is complete and traffic patterns have returned to ‘normal’ post-constriction noise monitoring will be carried out at the same or similar locations as the pre-construction noise monitoring to verify the model.

I will keep locals updated when I hear more.

Below: Recent vegetation clearing has occurred to provide construction access for widening works between Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) and Burleigh (Exit 87).
