The Pacific Motorway (M1) – Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes upgrade will close for the Festive Season at 6pm next Friday 20 December 2019. We thank all those affected by the project’s works in 2019 for their patience and understanding and wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday break.

Due to the changed traffic conditions in place along the alignment, the reduced speed limit will remain in place over the break with the entire 5.7-kilometre stretch of the M1 between Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) and Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) now at 80km/h.

  • Please be aware that Queensland Police Service frequently patrol roadworks zones and the mobile road safety camera trailer will remain in place along the alignment until the completion of the works.

The project’s daytime works will resume at 6am on Monday 6 January 2020 and night works will resume on Sunday 12 January 2020.

In January, our works along the alignment will continue including:

  • roadworks in the middle of the northbound and southbound carriageways between Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) and Robina (Exit 82).
  • road upgrade works for the new northbound lanes between Robina (Exit 82) and Varsity Lakes (Exit 85)
  • bridge construction works for the final new section of Stapley Drive bridge.

Our program of works is expected to be complete by mid-2020.

Activities – Sunday 15 to Friday 20 December 2019 and Monday 6 to Friday 17 January 2020

Night works occur Sunday to Thursday nights from 6pm to 6am, with traffic impacts from 8pm to 4am. However, please note – night works between this Sunday and early 2020 are expected to be limited.

  • Some works will occur behind construction barriers with no traffic impacts expected. This includes drainage works in the centre of the carriageway between Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) and Robina (Exit 82).
  • Other works will require some changed traffic conditions including:
    • next week
      • the closure of the Robina (Exit 82) southbound on-ramp on Sunday and Monday nights to complete fencing and electrical works along the ramp.
        • Motorists wanting to enter the motorway in this area are advised to plan their journey and seek an alternative on-ramp – Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) is located north of this closure and Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) is located south.
      • an intermittent lane closure will be in place on the southbound side on Sunday night between Robina (Exit 82) and Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) while motorway signs are being installed.
      • some minor traffic impacts may occur on Monday night as heavy asphalting machinery accesses the work area on the northbound side near Varsity Lakes (Exit 85). Asphalt sealing works will occur behind construction barriers north of Stapley Drive bridge.
      • a shoulder closure will be required on the Robina (Exit 82) northbound on-ramp on Monday night with asphalting to occur on the ramp. Traffic will be directed around the works zone – slow down and follow signage.
        • heavy construction machinery will be in use during the above works, particularly the asphalting. We apologise for any disturbance this may cause local residents.
    • next year
      • intermittent lane closures will be in place on both sides of the motorway between Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) and Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) and along Robina Parkway and Scottsdale Drive where they intersect with the motorway, from Monday 13 to Thursday 16 January from 8pm to 4am. These lane closures are required for the installation of electrical cable.
      • early morning concrete pours to assist the curing process, occurring intermittently from 3am at Stapley Drive bridge (near Exit 85) and from 5.30am in the future northbound lanes north of Stapley Drive bridge.

Day works continue Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm until Friday 20 December 2019 and resume on Monday 6 January 2020.

  • Works during the day include the construction of the final section of Stapley Drive bridge. The team is making good progress on the bridge with the deck units (that span across the future northbound lanes, forming the foundation for the new road) now installed and concrete works for the top section now underway.
