Noise Barrier Works

The Pacific Motorway (M1) – Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes is progressing on schedule. Works to upgrade the 5.7-kilometre alignment started in May 2018 and are expected to be completed by mid-2020.
As part of this upgrade, a noise barrier will be constructed either side of the access track adjacent to the M1 northbound near Somerset Heights Estate, located at 95 Gemvale Road, Mudgeeraba. See map overleaf for noise barrier location.
The noise barrier will:
– Be made of concrete
– Be between 5 to 6 metres high
– Be over 270 metres long
– Be constructed in two sections due to the location of underground services in the area
– Be painted in a pale eucalypt (green) colour
– Feature a textured rib pattern with vertically running elevations on the motorway side of the wall to
discourage graffiti vandalism
Construction of this noise barrier is expected to start in early January 2020 and will be completed by mid- 2020, weather and other conditions permitting.
What to expect
Works will generally be carried out Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm, and Saturdays from 6am to 6pm, when required. Some limited night works may also be required from Sunday to Thursday, 6pm to 6am.
During construction, residents should expect:
– Workers to be in the area behind rear property boundaries near the M1
– Noise from construction vehicles and machinery.
