The inquiry into horrific allegations of botched surgeries at the Mackay Base Hospital must fully investigate all cases to give victims and whistleblowers the justice they deserve.

Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli said it was the Health Minister’s responsibility to ensure the inquiry got to the bottom of the shocking claims.

“We’ve just seen the Caboolture Hospital report which was a complete dud and did nothing for the victims of that hospital,” he said.

“We cannot allow that to happen in Mackay.

“Just two weeks ago at the Mackay Health Crisis Town Hall, we repeatedly heard allegations of surgeries that went wrong and turned people’s lives upside down.

“I want the people of Mackay to know we are on their side and we won’t stop fighting for justice.

“The people of Mackay deserve nothing less.

“That’s why for months now we have put solutions on the table for the State Government to adopt including real-time data monitoring, better resources for triaging and more funding for the frontline.”

Shadow Minister for Open Data Brent Mickelberg said transparency was key to finding the truth.

“We are calling on the State Government to ensure that all claims will be fully investigated, and all hospital data and information required is made readily available,” he said.

“The victims of this hospital and their families deserve to know the truth about what happened to them and a guarantee that it will never happen again.”

Member for Whitsunday Amanda Camm said the Mackay community was reeling from claims of botched surgery at the hospital.

“Our Health Crisis Town Hall held just a couple of weeks ago uncovered the true state of the Queensland Health Crisis here in Mackay with patients, doctors and nurses sharing their stories,” she said.

“I know many are suffering anxiety about the problems plaguing the Mackay Hospital particularly women and expectant mothers.

“I won’t stop fighting for the people who’ve been silenced or feel they have nowhere to turn.

“They deserve better from this Government.

“They deserve the truth.”
