Respected Logan City Councillor Jacob Heremaia has been selected by the LNP to take on Queensland’s Health Minister Shannon Fentiman in the electorate of Waterford in October’s state election.

Councillor Heremaia has put his hand up to help deliver an end to Labor’s Health Crisis and deliver the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.

LNP Leader David Crisafulli said Jacob was a strong local leader and a great addition to the LNP’s campaign to deliver the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.

“As a former Chair of Logan’s Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee, Jacob knows Queenslanders’ hard-earned money must be treated with respect and he understands the challenges faced by local government and by Queenslanders under Labor’s Cost of Living Crisis,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“As the local Councillor, Jacob has a proven record fighting for what his community needs and he’s committed to delivering the change the Waterford community are calling for.

“Waterford has spoken loudly and clearly that they want an end to Labor’s Health Crisis.”

Cr Heremaia said he couldn’t stand by any longer and watch the worst Health Minister in history continue to put more Queensland lives at risk by failing to resource and run Queensland’s hospitals properly.

“Shannon Fentiman has run Queensland Health into the ground and our community are paying a high price, it cannot go on which is why I am stepping forward to run as the LNP candidate for Waterford,” Cr Heremaia said.

“Time’s up for Shannon Fentiman and Labor.

“Our community is witnessing first-hand the alarming impacts of Shannon Fentiman’s failures and is demanding an end to Labor’s chaos and crisis.

“Ambulance ramping at Logan Hospital is a staggering 64% – almost two in three people arriving in an ambulance are left languishing because Labor has failed our hospitals.

“It’s clear nothing will change unless we change the Government and by getting rid of the worst Health Minister in Queensland’s history, we can end Labor’s Health Crisis.”

Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said the people of Waterford were key to ending Labor’s Health Crisis in October.

“On the metrics that matter, Shannon Fentiman is the worst Health Minister in History,” Ms Bates said.

“We can stop Labor’s Health Crisis and end the reign of the Worst Health Minister in history by voting LNP in Waterford in October.”

Shannon Fentiman has delivered:

  • The worst ambulance ramping in history.
  • The worst surgery waitlists in history.
  • The worst specialist waitlists in history.

“The worst part of it is she said it would improve on her watch, instead she’s delivered the worst record in history.

“This is the Minister who refuses to release ambulance ramping monthly, who cares more about her political aspirations than the survival of Queenslanders in hospitals and has overseen the highest levels of frontline workers leaving than at any other time.”

“The longer Shannon Fentiman is Health Minister, the worse Labor’s Health Crisis becomes. Jacob has the right priorities for Waterford and can help deliver the change Queenslanders deserve.”
