Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates has written to Health Minister Cameron Dick to request that urgent action be taken to address safety concerns at the Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital.
In her letter, Ms Bates drew the Minister’s attention to her experience during shifts at both hospitals in recent weeks, and asked that he act quickly to improve security.
“I have today written to the Health Minister requesting that he double the security presence at Gold Coast University Hospital, provide them with better equipment, and employ more in house, rather than contracted officers to patrol the grounds, as well as put in a dedicated 24 hour onsite Police Beat,” said Ms Bates.
“I told the Minister that Robina Hospital should have dedicated security teams at the Emergency Department and Mental Health Unit and the Robina Police Beat should be a 24 hour Police Beat with boosted resources, while leave provisions for patients at the Mental Health Unit should be tightened.”
“I have asked the Minister to urgently investigate and response to the community’s concerns and advise when these security proposals can be implemented.”
