GLADSTONE women are still in the dark about the future of maternity services in the region, as the local hospital remains on bypass.

Shadow Minister for Health, Medical Research and Women Ros Bates said Gladstone women are being forced to travel to Rockhampton to give birth.

“When the LNP raised this issue last week, the State Government didn’t have a plan to fix it,” Ms Bates said.

“One week later, they still don’t have a plan to fix it.

“For the Health Minister to brush it off and say “Gladstone isn’t unique” is a cop out.

“In Queensland, in 2022, a Gladstone mother can’t give birth at her local hospital.

“The Queensland Health Crisis is real.

“The embattled Health Minister is absolutely clueless in how to fix it.

“After seven years and three health Ministers Labor is losing control of our hospitals.

“The State Government has destroyed the health system and they want another seven years to fix it.

“Yvette D’Ath needs to get Gladstone and immediately sort this out, otherwise women face the prospect of given birth on the side of the road.”
