Project update
The Pacific Motorway (M1) – Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes upgrade is on target to be complete by mid-2020. Over the coming final months, our works will involve:
- the completion of the new Stapley Drive bridge over the future northbound lanes. These works are now well-progressed with concrete works now occurring on the top section of the bridge to form the future road. Once all required bridge works are complete, traffic in this section of the motorway will be moved onto their permanent alignments and the new Stapley Drive southbound off-ramp will open to traffic. Further information will be provided.
- completion of all road upgrade works along the alignment. Currently works are underway for the future northbound lanes between Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) and Robina (Exit 82) and in the median between Robina (Exit 82) and Mudgeeraba (Exit 79).
- finishing works along the entire 5.7-kilometre alignment including all asphalting, barrier installation, fencing, installation and commissioning of electrical features including those for the Smart Motorways system, signage, final line marking, removal of all infrastructure for the temporary traffic arrangements, and more.
Much of our remaining work will be carried out during the day, Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm. Some night works will also be required. Our regular email updates will continue to provide details about all planned night works.
The entire alignment is now an 80km/h speed zone with reduced speed limits in place during night works – stay alert and observe all changed speed limit signage.
With only months left until the project is complete, we thank you for your continued patience and understanding while this important road upgrade is finalised.
Night works
Night works occur Sunday to Thursday nights from 6pm to 6am, with traffic impacts from 8pm to 4am. Some night works will occur behind construction barriers with no impacts to traffic expected. Other works will require some changed traffic conditions with reduced speed limits in place.

- Robina (Exit 82) to Varsity Lakes (Exit 85)
- Night works to drill footings close to the motorway will occur behind construction barriers south of Robina (Exit 82) on the northbound side.

*Please note – the above dates are based on current planning and conditions. Many factors, including inclement weather and unfavourable construction conditions, can cause our works program to change. Emailed Traffic Alerts and SMS messages sent to mobile phones (for those registered) are provided prior to significant traffic impacts to alert motorists. Further information will also be provided in upcoming community email updates (currently provided fortnightly).
Day works continue Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm. Some works may also be required outside of these hours including at Stapley Drive bridge with early morning concrete pours occurring from 3am to assist the curing process.
