MEDIA STATEMENT: Crisafulli Government backs small and family businesses for export success

  • New trade and investment strategy sets clear sector and international market priorities to strengthen Queensland’s economy.
  • Stronger focus on small and family businesses to benefit from export gains and global opportunities.
  • Regional communities central to trade and investment delivery, creating local job creation and economic growth.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering better services through a stronger economy and building Queensland’s future, after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government has delivered a clear direction to strengthen the role of Queensland’s global business agency and our international presence, to deliver greater economic benefits to the State.

The Trade and Investment Queensland Strategy 2026–2032 embeds a stronger focus on small and family businesses as well as regional exporters to drive jobs and growth by achieving their international goals.

It’s just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering better services through a stronger economy and building Queensland’s future, after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Strategy resets the focus of Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) on achieving real trade and investment outcomes for Queensland businesses of all sizes by growing both exports and the number of businesses that trade with the world, attracting quality investments and building strong global partnerships.

It provides a clear framework for TIQ to help Queensland businesses navigate the challenges of international trade volatility and geopolitical shifts, equipping them to thrive in an increasingly competitive global economy.

This reset follows Labor’s decade of decline which left Queensland’s international reputation in tatters and damaged our relationships with key trading partners.

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said it was important to ensure the benefits of trade and investment were available to and shared across the state.

“Queensland is open for business under the Crisafulli Government and we are backing businesses across the State to sell to the world,” Minister Bates said.

“Trade supports around a quarter of the jobs in Queensland, and a huge percentage of our exporters are based in regional areas so it’s critical we continue delivering the support they need to succeed.

“This refreshed strategy reflects Queensland’s renewed ambition amidst a changing global trade environment. It is forward-looking and centred around the belief that trade and investment are essential to a stronger, more productive economy.

“We know that businesses that export to the world generate greater benefits for Queensland, which is why this Strategy focuses TIQ’s efforts on helping more exporters, including small and family businesses, export more.

“This Strategy also ensures that TIQ continues to support the Crisafulli Government to repair Queensland’s international relationships after Labor’s decade of decline, attract high quality investment ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and is known as the QueensLand of Opportunity around the world.”
