Gold Coast commuters can now breathe a collective sigh of relief as the $18 million dollar upgrade of the M1 between Exits 79 and 82, which has seen the southbound section of the motorway widened to three lanes, is now complete in time for the Christmas rush.

Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates recently visited the road works to inspect the widening efforts is thrilled that the current funded upgrades to the M1 are now complete.

“I’m delighted to let locals know that the M1 upgrade between Mudgeeraba and Robina, which widened the southbound section to three lanes, is now complete for the Christmas and New Year periods,” Ms Bates said.

“Locals can now spend less time on the road and more time being productive at work, out and about in the local area, or at home with their families.

“This will give locals certainty and is the final stage in making what was once known as the ‘Mudgeeraba car park and the Robina car park’ a thing of the past.

“The southbound widening of Mudgeeraba to Robina has been a tremendous effort, and I thank commuters for their patience.

“There is always short term pain for long term gain when it comes to road upgrades, but it’s great to see these works completed early than anticipated and on budget.”

The Australian and Queensland governments provided $9 million each for the additional widening works along the Mudgeeraba to Robina section with funds available due to smart financial planning and project management of the Motorway project.
