More COVID-19 testing clinics across Queensland have ditched referrals from GP’s, making it easier for people to get tested.
LNP Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said common sense has prevailed but there is still more work to be done.
“I have been advocating for this crucial change after a landslide of complaints and questions,” Ms Bates said.
“People thought they were doing the right thing by attending a COVID clinic, only to learn they needed a referral from a GP.
“Queensland can’t afford one person who might have the virus to be turned away.
“I’m also worried that people are confused about the difference between a Fever Clinic and a COVID Clinic.
“The Palaszczuk Government needs to end the confusion and introduce clear messaging.
“We are still experiencing long queues at COVID clinics today and I urge everyone to remain calm.
“As a nurse I know who exhausting it is for staff working around the clock and they deserve our respect.
“I will continue to hold this Labor Government to account as more issues arise.
“We must give Queenslanders as much notice to get home if the borders are closed to Victoria and the rest of New South Wales.
“Our COVID clinics need more resources and longer hours to meet the demand brought on by the Labor Government who urged returned travellers from Victoria since December 21 to come forward and get a test.”
