MEDIA STATEMENT: Funding powers up Queensland’s screen sector

• The Crisafulli Government has delivered $450,000 through Screen Queensland initiatives to support the State’s screen industry. 
• Through Screen Queensland’s Online Production Grants, four Queensland-led online projects have received a share of $200,000 in funding to expand their reach.
• The inaugural Online Elevation Fund has delivered $250,000 to five established Queensland creator businesses to support their operations and business development.
• The Crisafulli Government is delivering better services through a stronger economy after a decade of decline under Labor. 

The Crisafulli Government has delivered for Queensland’s screen sector with two Screen Queensland initiatives providing $450,000 in funding for local screen businesses and online creators.

Four projects will share in $200,000 in funding through the Online Production Grants, which supports Queensland practitioners to create innovative online content, gain valuable credits and connect with global audiences.

This follows five established screen businesses receiving a share of $250,000 in funding through Queensland’s inaugural Online Elevation Fund.

Online Elevation Fund recipients will undertake key operational investments, such as expanding into multiplatform content and distribution, growing production teams, securing new studio space, and optimising revenue streams for further business development and sustainability.

The investment supports Queensland’s Time to Shine: a 10-Year Strategy for Arts and Culture by creating career pathways for local practitioners and growing the State’s creative economy.

It’s one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland’s screen industry after a decade of decline under Labor left the sector with no funding certainty.

Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the latest grants would help to create opportunities for Queensland creatives in the rapidly growing creator economy.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering certainty to the screen industry with multi-year funding help create a steady pipeline of projects,” Minister Langbroek said.

“Every dollar spent in the sector helps to create jobs for Queenslanders and boosts our local economy.

“By investing in online production, we are helping Queensland creators push their potential and position their projects on accessible platforms with global reach.

“Online content is an increasingly important part of the screen ecosystem enjoyed by millions of Australians, which is why we want Queensland creators to not only participate in this growing industry, but to lead it.

“Through the inaugural Online Elevation Fund, we’re investing in creator-led enterprises and enabling Queenslanders to expand their potential, driving employment and innovation with local and international reach.”

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney congratulated the successful recipients, recognising the importance of investing in Queensland creators and their original ideas.

“The projects supported through the Online Production Grants demonstrate the breadth and originality of Queensland’s online creative sector, with stories spanning feminist noir comedy, sustainable fashion, rare Australian wildlife and the fascinating world of vintage guitars,” Ms Feeney said.

“Screen Queensland is committed to growing our State’s online creative sector through initiatives like the Online Production Grants. Previous projects include Ina, which made its World Premiere at the prestigious Canneseries, and Finally, A Show About Men! which released through high-profile Australian comedy platform Grouse House.”
