Queensland’s best practice guide for road side rest areas has officially been launched.
Rest areas play an important role in supporting and improving the tourism experience.
An innovative new guide will assist in the design, construction and management of rest areas.
World-wide research into how other countries are supporting drive markets was conducted.
An online public survey of more than 1000 drive tourists was also undertaken.
The new guide outline standards for:
- Strategic positioning to enhance tourism.
- Seating and Shelter.
- Amenities (Toilets, Bins, BBQ facilites).
- Pet Facilities.
- Signage and information (tourism promotion, localised themed signage.)
- Technology (Wifi Access, Smart Phone Apps).
Drive tourists contribute approximately $2 billion to the State in annual average visitor expenditure.
By setting improved standards drivers will stay longer and travel beyond major tourism destinations.
