ANYTHING short of fully-restored birthing services for the mothers of Gladstone isn’t good enough.

Merely reinstating planned caesarean sections is not a solution to this problem.

It won’t stop babies being born on the side of the road putting the safety of mothers and their babies at risk.

For months, pregnant women have been forced to rush to Rockhampton to give birth because the Palaszczuk Government stopped providing maternity services in Gladstone, a major Queensland city.

We heard these horror stories firsthand when the Opposition held a Health Crisis Town Hall in Gladstone last week.

One of the key findings of the Mackay Hospital report was the alarming number of women being pushed into having unnecessary caesarean sections.

The government shouldn’t be backing expectant mothers into a corner like this – they should have a clear choice on where and how they give birth.

Why did this “solution” only suddenly appear just hours after a local member and Minister was asked about the future of his job in Parliament?

This is a political solution, not a patient solution.

This is a poor attempt to protect Glenn Butcher’s job instead of providing the mothers of Gladstone the maternity services they need and deserve.

Yvette D’Ath clearly cares more about protecting her political mate and herself instead of the mothers of Gladstone.

There’s one question every family in Gladstone needs answered.

When will maternity services be fully restored?

Until maternity services at Gladstone are fully restored, Glenn Butcher’s offer to resign remains on the table.

Queensland deserves better.
