THE LNP Opposition has announced the location for the next Queensland Health Crisis Town Hall.

Cuts to maternity services, blowouts to specialist waitlists, hospital bed shortages and ambulance ramping are expected to headline the LNP’s 29th Queensland Health Crisis Town Hall in Beaudesert on Monday.

Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli will be joined by Member for Scenic Rim Jon Krause and Queenslanders to discuss the deteriorating condition of local health services.

Mr Crisafulli said locals’ experiences of the health system would be taken straight to the floor of Parliament House.

“Data uncovered just earlier this week revealed that waitlists to see specialists have blown out by 80 per cent and the time paramedics spend waiting in hospital driveways has skyrocketed by 20 per cent,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“There are real people and real stories that sit behind these shocking statistics and our Health Crisis Town Halls are instrumental in giving a voice to these Queenslanders.

“The State Government needs to be held accountable for a failure to plan, resource and run the health system over the past eight years.

“This will be our 29th Queensland Health Crisis Town Hall and we’ll keep hosting these meetings across the state and will keep fighting for a better health system.”

Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said this week marked nine years since the LNP government reopened Beaudesert’s maternity ward, after it had been shut by Labor for a decade.

“With a maternity crisis crippling Queensland’s regional and rural hospitals, we’re proud of our record reopening maternity services like Beaudesert,” Ms Bates said.

“But now, after eight years of the Palaszczuk Labor Government, our hospitals are on life-support, with bed shortages, maternity service closures and elective surgery waitlists blowing out.

“Embattled Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said she wants us to stop holding these meetings. I can guarantee you, we will not stop because it’s critical we heal the health system.

“Queenslanders can no longer trust this Health Minister or the Palaszczuk Labor Government to keep them safe.

“They deserve so much better.”
