PATIENTS, healthcare workers and residents from across Logan have shared their personal experiences about the ailing health system at a Queensland Health Crisis Town Hall this morning.
It was the 24th Health Crisis Town Hall hosted by the Opposition.
Elective surgery delays, ambulance ramping and a lack of beds were just some of the issues raised by anxious locals who are growing frustrated with the Palaszczuk Government ignoring them.
Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli said the State Government is no longer governing for all Queenslanders.
“After three terms in office, the State Government isn’t listening to Queenslanders,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“The stories we heard today were harrowing and confronting.
“We will take these stories to the floor of the Queensland Parliament and continue to fight for change.
“Logan has some of the worst hospital performance data in the state. This isn’t the fault of our hard-working doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied health professionals.
“The blame lays squarely at the feet of the State Government who refuse to admit Queensland Health is in crisis.
“The Opposition has put solutions on the table including more beds, better triaging, releasing data in real-time and giving power back to the frontline staff to make better decisions to improve patient care.”
Recently released health figures show a patient waited nearly eight hours on an ambulance ramp before receiving treatment at Logan Hospital.
Ambulance ramping at Logan Hospital is the second worst in Queensland at 65%, more than half of all emergency department patients aren’t seen within the clinically recommended time, 2,075 people are on the elective surgery waitlist and more than 17,500 people are on the waiting list for the waiting list.
Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said the people of Logan deserve a world class health system.
“As a nurse and former hospital administrator, I know how stressful it is for our frontline staff who are working double shifts to care for patients and clear the backlog,” Ms Bates said.
“For seven years the Palaszczuk Government has destroyed the health system and now they want another seven years to fix it.
“Queensland Health was in crisis long before covid hit and the embattled Health Minister has no idea how to fix it.
“The Opposition will continue to listen to Queenslanders and fight for the patients and health workers who’ve been the victims of the Queensland Health Crisis.”
