The Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland with more police to grow our frontline, stronger aerial crime-fighting capability, new and upgraded police stations and critical equipment for frontline police, in the 2026-27 Budget.
The 2026-27 Budget invests $7.2 billion into Making Queensland Safer, strengthening the foundations for a fresh start and restoring safety where you live after Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis.
The Budget delivers more police to grow our frontline and funding to deliver upgrades for Queensland to participate in the National Firearms Register, helping keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists.
It also enhances the ability of police to pursue criminals from the air with the expansion of the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Capability and provides locked-in long-term funding for POLAIR services for Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast and Cairns.
New and upgraded police stations, facilities and police beats will help restore safety where you live, including Stage 2 of the Kirwan Police Facility, which will deliver a new state-of-the-art Police Academy, Dog Squad, and other specialised facilities in Townsville by 2029-30.
Police are being resourced with the equipment they need to make our community safer, with the continued rollout of portable handheld radios and other essential operating equipment as part of a $147.9 million investment.
This record investment in the frontline comes as the Crisafulli Government exceeded its election commitment to deliver 1,600 new police recruits to the frontline as Queensland Police numbers surpass 13,000 for the first time in the State’s history.
Since the October 2024 election, there has been a net increase of 755 more officers on the beat – 10 times what Labor delivered in their last term of government.
Treasurer David Janetzki said the 2026-27 Budget was about delivering for Queensland by restoring safety where you live.
“We are delivering on our promises, with relief you can rely on through responsible decisions for now and the future, and no new or increased taxes,” Treasurer Janetzki said.
“This Budget strengthens the foundations we’ve laid in making Queensland safer, restoring health services, delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders, building generational infrastructure, getting the Games back on track, as well as playing our part to ease national cost of living pressures.”
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Dan Purdie said the Crisafulli Government was backing police with more boots on the ground, stronger capability and the equipment needed to keep Queenslanders safe.
“This Budget backs more police on the frontline, better infrastructure and the tools they need to restore safety where you live and turn the tide on Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis after a decade of underinvestment by the former Government,” Minister Purdie said.
“We are giving police more eyes in the sky to track offenders and support frontline operations through expanded drone capability and long-term funding certainty for POLAIR services in Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Cairns.
“We are also delivering system upgrades for Queensland to join the National Firearms Register, new and improved police stations and beats, and the continued rollout of portable handheld radios and other critical equipment so our officers are better supported to do their jobs.”
