Project update
- Northern section – Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) to Robina (Exit 82)
Northbound traffic has now been moved to the new widened section of the motorway on the western side between Mudgeeraba (Exit 79) and Robina (Exit 82). The new The Link Way (Exit 80) off-ramp also opened to traffic as part of these works. Due to these changed traffic conditions, the speed limit in this section has now been increased to 80km/h on both sides of the motorway.
- However, motorists are reminded that speed limits can change in a roadworks zone, particularly when night works are underway. All speed limits are clearly signed and apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This movement of traffic has now enabled upgrade works to start in the centre of the northbound and southbound carriageways in this section.
Above: Photographs taken this week before and after the traffic changes which occurred on Wednesday night. The red arrows show the location of northbound traffic and the yellow arrows show the location of the Robina (Exit 82) on-ramp. The blue line indicates part of the new works area in the centre of the carriageway.
- Southern section – Robina (Exit 82) to Varsity Lakes (Exit 85)
Upgrade works are also continuing in the southern part of the project with construction continuing on the new section of Stapley Drive bridge. The headstocks (concrete structures that support the load of the future road) are currently being built with the deck units (long concrete beams) expected to be installed in early December. Good progress has also been made on the future northbound lanes with much of this 2km section now sealed and asphalted. Earthworks and works to strengthen the foundation of the new road in the area closest to the bridge are now almost complete.
- Future email updates
With all expected major traffic changes for 2019 now made, night works along the alignment through to early 2020 are expected to be limited and intermittent. Due to this, our project email updates will now be provided fortnightly with information about any night time traffic impacts (such as lane or ramp closures) being provided via emailed Traffic Alerts and SMS messages.
Anyone registered to receive this email update also receives emailed Traffic Alerts. If you’d like to register to also receive SMS messages to your mobile phone, please email the team – details are below.
Activities next fortnight – Sunday 1 to Friday 13 December
Night works occur Sunday to Thursday nights from 6pm to 6am, with traffic impacts from 8pm to 4am.
Night works over the next two weeks are expected to be limited.
- Some works will occur behind construction barriers with no traffic impacts.
- Other works will require some changed traffic conditions including:
- a northbound lane closure near Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) next Sunday night for asphalting works.
- all northbound traffic will be detoured via the Robina (Exit 82) off-ramp and on-ramp next Monday night, while asphalting works occur on the motorway near the overpass.
- southbound shoulder or lane closures near Varsity Lakes (Exit 85) on Monday and Tuesday nights, while light poles are installed on the future Stapley Drive off-ramp.
- intermittent shoulder closures along The Link Way, Mudgeeraba nightly from Sunday 8 December for finishing works including fencing and signage installation.
Day works continue Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm.
