JOINT MEDIA STATEMENT: Queensland agriculture on show for international investors as global conference kicks off

  • In a southern hemisphere first, Global AgInvesting conference kicks off in Brisbane today.
  • Queensland’s world-class primary industries and investment opportunities showcased to international investors.
  • Facilitates innovation, investment and new global trade opportunities to support Crisafulli Government’s ambitious goal to grow the value of primary production to $30 billion by 2030.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future and a better lifestyle through a stronger economy after a decade of decline under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering new and diversified opportunities for international investment into Queensland’s primary industries by hosting global investors, agribusiness leaders and industry stakeholders at the Global AgInvesting Australia conference which gets underway in Brisbane today.

In a vote of confidence in Queensland under the Crisafulli Government, this is the first time the world’s premier agricultural investment event has been held in the southern hemisphere.

It’s just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland’s future and a stronger economy by introducing the State’s agriculture sector to leading international investors ahead of the rest of Australia.

The Crisafulli Government is driving investment in the agricultural sector to deliver on its ambitious goal to grow the value of Queensland’s primary production to $30 billion by 2030.

During a decade of decline under the former Labor Government, Labor failed to attract international investment at a significant scale, industry suffered under heightened red tape and regulatory uncertainty with opportunities for prosperity left to wither on the vine.

Queensland’s position as a global leader is being strengthened as hundreds of delegates have taken part in site visits at farming, supply chain and processing operations, and for the next two days will converge on Brisbane for the conference component of the program.

Minister for Primary Industries Tony Perrett said the event was a major opportunity to showcase Queensland’s world-class primary industries sector to major international investors.

“The Global AgInvesting Australia conference will put Queensland in front of key investors and decision-makers from around the world and highlight why our state is a smart and stable place to invest,” Minister Perrett said.

“Queensland’s primary industries continue to go from strength to strength, supported by strong seasonal conditions, premium products, growing export demand, regulatory stability and continued innovation and industry leadership.

“Queensland’s primary industries are in a prime position to help meet the growing global demand for premium food and fibre, and this event will amplify our potential internationally and strengthen the sector locally to unlock new opportunities for investment and value-adding.”

Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the Crisafulli Government was delighted to host this monumental event which would shine a spotlight on future investment.

“Queensland is open for business, and our innovation, natural resources and forward-thinking approach are helping drive growth and investment,” Minister Bates said.

“We know future investment will be critical to unlocking new opportunities across agriculture, natural capital, biofuels and renewables,” she said.

“We look forward to welcoming the GAI conference to our great state and shining a spotlight on our QueensLand of Opportunity.”
