EXPLOSIVE new health figures have exposed the chaotic state of Queensland Health under the Palaszczuk Labor Government, with record numbers of patients forced to wait more than 24 hours in overflowing emergency departments.

In another major sign the Palaszczuk Labor Government is losing control of the health system, the number of patients languishing in Emergency for more than 24 hours has skyrocketed by 225% since they were elected.

A staggering 12,252 patients waited longer than 24 hours inside the emergency department to be seen by a doctor in 2021/22, up from 3772 patients in 2015/16.

Just halfway through this financial year, a shocking 10,195 patients have already endured the horrors of a 24 hour wait in Emergency.

The West-Moreton Health and Hospital Service (HHS) recorded the highest increase of patients waiting 24 hours or longer, with a staggering increase of 2838% followed by Gold Coast HHS at 1245%.

This follows revelations that in just six months, the number of people waiting longer than clinically recommended to see a specialist has jumped by 18 per cent, to 122,000 people.

Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli said it was clear Queensland’s health system was flatlining across every metric and staff weren’t being empowered to fix it.

“These alarming statistics are a direct result of the State Government’s failure to plan, deliver and evaluate,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Patients are waiting on stretchers, waiting in Emergency Departments, and waiting to see specialists. No patient deserves this.

“Queensland has world class doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied health professionals, who are being let down by the failures of this State Government.

“The LNP has hosted 30 Queensland Health Crisis Town Halls across the state and put solutions on the table to heal the health crisis. They include more resources, improving triaging, real time data monitoring and giving power back to local doctors and nurses.”

Shadow Health Minister and registered nurse Ros Bates said it was clear the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s health failures had created chaos in Queensland hospitals.

“More than 10,000 patients have already sat through 24 hours or more in emergency departments over the last six months, how much longer will Queenslanders have to wait for the health system to be fixed?” Ms Bates said.

“As a nurse and former hospital administrator, I know how frustrating it is for patients and staff to experience these horrific delays.

“Our doctors and nurses are exhausted because they’re working double and triple shifts.

“All Queenslanders should be proud of their dedication to keep the health system on the rails.

“After three terms in office the Palaszczuk Labor Government has given up on listening to Queenslanders.

“My message to my frontline colleagues is simple.

“We respect you, we value you and we thank you for the work you do.”
