LNP Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates MP wants the Government to listen to Mudgeeraba residents, and help fund a range of community priorities in the electorate, with Labor set to reveal its State Budget tomorrow.

Ms Bates said locals deserved better roads, improved school safety, more resources for local police and increased environmental protection.

“Since the election, our community has been calling for action on a number of priority projects.

We will discover tomorrow whether the Palaszczuk-Labor Government has been listening,” Ms Bates said.

“I’m calling for the following funding commitments:

  • $330,000 to deter hoons at the intersection of Pine Creek Road and Nerang-Murwillumbah Road; upgrade including road realignment, concrete barriers, and CCTV
  • $1.5 million in vital safety upgrades at Mudgeeraba Road-Tallai Road intersection including widening of Mudgeeraba Road and installation of pedestrian lights.
  • $1.5 million to raise the Austinville Causeway on Gold Coast Springbrook Road
  • $9 million to dual lane Gooding Drive from Bourton Road to M1 to stop the crazy traffic gridlock
  • $30 million to put signals in at Gooding Drive Roundabout, significantly increasing safety for our community.
  • Further upgrades to Worongary Road from Mudgeeraba Road to Woodvale Drive
  • $100,000 to clean up the Mudgeeraba Creek from the M1 to Somerset Drive
  • $60,000 for flashing school lights on Gold Coast-Springbrook Road for the Mudgeeraba Creek State School
  • $60,000 for flashing school lights on Eden-View Drive for Kings Christian College
  • $600,000 for My Community Legal in Robina to assist victims of domestic and family violence.
  • $150,000 for signage at Wunburra Lookout for tourism in Springbrook
  • $250,000 to upgrade the facilities in Carrara for the Mudgeeraba-Nerang District Cricket Club and the Carrara Saints AFL Club.

Ms Bates also called again for more funding for schools in the area and is seeking a commitment for a feasibility study on a new State High School west of the M1.

“Our community has been waiting twenty years for a new State High School, when 36% of our children travel east of the M1 to school.

That’s simply not good enough.  Our community is tired of being treated like second-class citizens by this Labor government.

I’ll be fighting to make sure Mudgeeraba gets its fair share,” said Ms Bates.
