Mudgeeraba Creek will receive a $100,000 cash splash under a Frecklington LNP Government, after years of neglect by Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor.

Mudgeeraba LNP MP, Ros Bates, said the cash injection would enable Landcare to bring the creek back to its former natural glory.

“After funding for the creek dried up under Labor, our wildlife disappeared and the creek spiralled into disrepair,” she said.

“My goal is to bring the platypus back and make the creek a place of pride for locals once again.

“Labor has never committed a cent to the creek – it’s only the LNP that has continuously put our money where our mouth is when it comes to cleaning up Mudgeeraba Creek between Somerset Drive and the M1.”

LNP Shadow Minister for Environment, David Crisafulli, said the LNP’s commitment to fund a community-led clean-up would mean that the creek would be rejuvenated by locals, for locals.

“This $100,000 commitment by an LNP Government is all about protecting and enhancing this natural asset for current and future generations,” he said.

“Landcare has the runs on the board for rejuvenating and maintaining our natural environment, and that’s why we want to see the local Landcare group take the lead on this much-needed initiative.”

Local resident Reg Taylor said the creek had been overlooked for years under Labor.

“There’s no doubt that Mudgeeraba Creek needs some TLC,” he said.

“As a local, I know that Mudgeeraba Creek floods all the time, and I’ve even seen shipping containers washed up in the area.

“This announcement is wonderful news for locals.”
