The Palaszczuk-Gordon Government’s promise to defend all frontline jobs has been shattered after the disturbing news more than 60 health employees lost their job yesterday.
Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg said this was devastating news for staff and their families and also shows the complete hypocrisy of Labor.
“Yesterday morning in Queensland Parliament a senior Minister of the Palaszczuk-Gordon Government said ‘I regard all of our staff in the public sector as frontline staff. We will defend them’,” Mr Springborg said.
“Hours later, health workers were being marched out the door demonstrating once again that Labor cannot be trusted.
“Queenslanders deserve to know from this incompetent Government once and for all, whether any more frontline services are at risk.”
Mr Springborg said this latest broken promise from Labor comes off the back of concerns up to 1,500 electricity workers across Queensland may find their job at risk.
“On Sunday we launched an online petition highlighting the precarious position of Ergon and Energex workers,” he said.
“We have a situation where Labor are claiming to save taxpayers $150 million with the merge of these organisations however have kept tight-lipped over where the savings would be found.
“Even the Electrical Trades Union has been calling on its Labor mates for assurances that front line services won’t be impacted.
“After today’s betrayal to slash more than 60 Health jobs, Queenslanders should be even more concerned the biggest threat to jobs in this state is Labor.”
