LABOR’S HOSPITAL BEDS SCANDAL
HUGE COST BLOWOUTS FOR NOT ONE EXTRA HOSPITAL BED – Chronic delays and blowouts
Labor can’t be trusted on health
Queenslanders continue to pay more for less under Labor, with the Budget exposing major new blowouts and delays for planned and expanded hospitals.
Queensland Health’s Capacity Expansion Program or Labor’s announced “Hospital and Health Plan” has blown out by a whopping $1.43 billion in 12 months, which is a 15% blowout.
Shockingly, this huge cost blowout will not deliver a single new hospital bed for Queenslanders in the middle of the Queensland Health Crisis:
• Last year, the program was budgeted at $9.785 billion for 2,200 beds.
• This year, the program has blown out to $11.215 billion and will deliver the exact same number of beds – 2,200.
Put simply, it’s more of the same under Labor, delivering less and costing Queenslanders more.
Ambulance ramping levels have soared to historic highs while Labor’s health record is huge budget blowouts that deliver not a single extra hospital bed.
Shadow Minister for Health and Ambulance Services and Registered Nurse Ros Bates said it was clear Labor couldn’t be trusted to heal the Queensland Health Crisis they created.
“Under Labor, ‘record’ spending has delivered record ambulance ramping, which is not only the highest it has ever been in Queensland, it’s also the highest in the nation,” Ms Bates said.
“A huge cloud now hangs over Bundaberg, Coomera and Toowoomba hospitals as to whether their costs and timeline will also blowout.
“In the middle of the Queensland Health Crisis, all Labor has delivered is delays and blowouts and not a single extra bed.
“Labor will say and do anything to cling to power but after three terms, four Health Ministers and ten budgets, Labor isn’t listening to doctors, nurses, paramedics or Queenslanders.
“In contrast, the LNP has put health solutions on the table including more resources, better triaging, releasing data in real time and putting doctors and nurses back in charge to improve patient care.
“If Queenslanders vote for change, the LNP has also committed to releasing real-time hospital data within 100 days of the election so Queenslanders can see what’s happening in our hospitals.
“Only the LNP has the Right Priorities for Queensland’s Future, including easier access to health services.”
