The State Government’s flagship health election promise for satellite hospitals across Queensland has been exposed as a sham.

With the Health Minister in the Estimates hot seat today it’s been revealed the satellite “hospitals” don’t have any overnight beds, meaning they are not hospitals but community day-clinics.
Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates says Labor’s proposal was nothing but a vote grab.

“There will not be one new bed,” Ms Bates said.

“Labor lied to the people of Queensland.

“These aren’t satellite hospitals, they’re health clinics.

“A hospital has a theatre, Emergency Department and overnight beds.

“Labor’s satellite hospitals were announced in marginal seats.

“The state government duped the people of Queensland.

“If your child has an asthma attack or your grandparent breaks a hip, a satellite hospital won’t be useful.

“The Labor Government is losing control of the health system.

“The LNP has put solutions on the table including more beds, improving triaging and giving power back to the frontline staff to make better decisions to improve patient care.

“The state government needs to stop talking up these half-baked satellite hospitals and instead invest that into a world class healthcare system for all Queenslanders.”
