Member for Mudgeeraba, Ros Bates MP has come out swinging against the Labor Government as no funding has been allocated once again to the Robina Community Legal Centre today.

Ms Bates said as the Labor Government made another six figure funding announcement for legal services in Brisbane, vital legal services in her electorate had again missed out.

“I am hugely disappointed to see that despite the impassioned pleas of our community and my recent advocacy in the Parliament, this Labor Government still refuses to provide funding certainty for the Robina Community Legal Centre,” said Ms Bates.

“The Robina Community Legal Centre provides a crucial community service to those who need it most in our local area, particularly in relation to domestic and family violence, instances of which have increased dramatically in recent weeks.

“Local residents will be rightfully stunned by Labor’s ongoing refusal to fund a Community Legal Centre in our area, and I will continue to stand with them as we fight for funding in the future.”

Robina Community Legal Centre president Ross Lee said a lack of funding from the Labor Government was restricting how much help the Centre could offer to residents in need.

“Funding certainty would mean that we could directly expand the free, frontline services we offer, increase our case load and ensure we have the administrative and support staff to help those who approach us in times of need,” said Mr Lee.

“I thank our local representatives, and Ms Bates in particular, for their ongoing advocacy as we remain hopeful this Labor Government will deliver the funding we urgently need.”
