The Queensland Health crisis is showing no signs of improvement on the Gold Coast.

New quarterly data shows GCUH has made the top five list of Queensland hospitals who have the worst percentage of specialist outpatients not seen in the recommended time.

While the hospital has the most people in Queensland stuck on the waiting-list-for-the-waiting-list at 34,922.

Meanwhile, 31% of those patients aren’t seen within the recommended time.

Robina is worse, with 33% of patients not seen within the recommended time.

The latest data also shows ambulance ramping from June 2020 to June 2021 has increased by 15.9% to 48% at GCUH.

Robina has soared by 21.4% to 45% in the same timeframe.

The LNP was able to reduce ambulance ramping to 15% by 2015, it’s now hit nearly 60% in some areas.

Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates said Labor is losing control of the health system.

“All Queenslanders deserve a world class health system no matter where they live,” Ms Bates said.

“If the embattled Health Minister can’t fix our hospitals, then she must go.

“As a nurse and former hospital administrator, I know how stressful it is for our exhausted frontline staff who aren’t getting the support they need.

“Our dedicated doctors, nurses and paramedics are heroes holding our hospital together during the Queensland Health crisis.

“Their dedication and professionalism is first-class but unfortunately, they are being badly let down by a State Government that is losing control of the health system it’s meant to be running.

“The LNP has put solutions on the table including:

1) Data Transparency: Real time data on available beds needs to be accessible to patients and health professionals to help them make the best decision for their situation.

2) Triaging Improvements: Providing better resourcing for triaging in emergency departments to ensure the service is fit for purpose.

3) Proper Resourcing: Investing in more beds instead of fudging the figures by counting chairs in the hospital bed tally.

4) Empowering Frontline Staff: Allowing front line clinicians the power to effectively run their hospitals, using local expertise and decision making.

“The state government needs to stop looking for fights and blaming everyone else and start fixing the health system.”
