Since last year, the Opposition has been urging the Palaszczuk Government to update rape kits that are used to collect DNA evidence.
It is inexcusable that the Palaszczuk Government has still failed to act on this incredible important issue.
Last year the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce’s final report heard horrifying instances of women struggling to obtain rape kits or in some cases being charged a fee for forensic medical examinations.
A key recommendation of the report demanded Queensland cease using inferior rape kits and update them to a higher standard like those used in other states including New South Wales and Victoria.
The Palaszczuk Government must explain why it has failed to act on this.
The Palaszczuk Government must immediately start listening and update rape kits and reduce the risk of inaccurate test results.
Queenslanders deserve so much better.
